Summer 104 - Autumn 108

Near the ocean on a riverside in Corondryx a single mother had a litter of five in total; Shell, Droplet, Egg, Riptide, and Turtle. They were a handful to care about but Seasalt did her very best to support and provide for her children. The seaside was gentle to the family, giving them everything they needed.

Tide was a selected, observing, and quiet child. Yet exploring her own sense of self she always loved Turtle for his upbeat and bright personality. Having him as a brother moved many feelings inside the young one, almost admired him for his original sight of life. But yet, Riptide had to find this view herself.

The grey and black chimera preferred to stick with her sisters, Droplet and Shell, since they kinda gave her some odd sense of stability. Most of the kits were fond of the ocean that roamed on their home's door, except for Tide. Despite her name, she always kept a safe distance between her frame and the endless blue.
Then, storm season came. Storms crashed into the beachside more often and giant waves were chasing the playground of the kits. Desperately, Seasalt tried to get all kits together until one of the deep blue mouths caught Seasalt, Droplet, Egg, and Shell.

Left alone at a young age Tide and Turtle had to look for each other. The loss of their family turned a switch in Riptide, her mindset now focused on survival for her and her brother. After all, there was plenty of food but they had a hard time catching it. So, observing as Tide was she told Turtle they had to be smart like the gulls. It took time but they learned how to catch fish that way, and in times they didn't they would be able to feast on the prey of the birds. Not every species brooded on the cliffside. Finally, thanks to Turtle Tiptide slowly adapted to her fear of being in the ocean.

As they reached around the middle of their apprentice age, Turtle was beginning to grow bored of their home. Everything was always the same old story and he was growing tired of it. Exploration was beginning to taint his mind and the more he thought about it, the more driven he felt to find it. His sister however was a little bit more on the hesitant side. Riptide did not want to leave her home as it was all she’s ever known, but to see her brother longing for adventure really stung. When Turtle asked about leaving, Riptide said yes and together the siblings left to discover the world together.

Turtle's interest in their new surroundings and the different stages of life drove him away from Riptide. His sister didn't really care for such things as long as they were able to live, and Tide longed for a place to be. She was looking for the stability she had with their family. Finally, Turtle wanted more and split ways but Tide disagreed.

Riptide was clearly furious about this, feeling as though her brother was abandoning her for some ‘feeling’ he had. They were kin and they had to look out for one another, nothing could separate them. Turtle disagreed with her and the tension between the two grew more and more. Riptide felt betrayed and hurt by what Turtle was saying, so in the heat of the moment, she turned her back and left Turtle in the dust.

Angered, hurt, and crushed at the same time Tide now felt herself being alone. Sobbing in one of their temporary homes, the chimera spent days withdrawn from everything. The young one was reflecting on everything, life, past, future - Turtle. What could have been if this calico wasn't so selfish and stubborn. Why she kept feeling off.
Then she was starting to think she needed a new direction, that nothing was set in stone. Ever.

Heading off the opposite way from her brother, Riptide walked back home, watching the ocean gently roll over the sand where their angry cousins took away her family.
Lonely she stood there, making herself a new tiny den to live in. Trying to have fun with memories of her sisters where she played in the sand as they did before. Mentally, she talked to her imaginative sisters, and caught herself she considered her identity to be like them.

A new insight gave Riptide strength and she started feeling way more comfortable in her body and mind. More optimistic and free Tide decided to travel herself. Roaming around on her own, or accompanying others on their travel. With this, she grew fond of her new self.

This way she spent years on her journey of self-reflection until she saw a face she never thought to see again - Droplet. Her sister was looking good and terrible at the same time. Trying to get in touch with her Tide noticed the hesitant way of Droplet. Slowly, the she-cat revealed everything that busted her mind and what happened in the last 2.5 years. She became a fire triber, climbed up to be headmaster, then got pregnant with her boyfriend until she slowly gained back memory from what happened. Panic let her leave the tribes in the shadow of the night, leaving her new family.

It pained Tide so much to see how her sister suffered and spent weeks with her to give her a feeling of security. But her sister did just think about her kits and her boyfriend she just left behind. Yuki was asking Tide to look for them while Tide promised her sister to report her frequently.

And so, close to the borders, she left the Grey Fire to join the tribes. It was the Light Tribe totem that she grew fond of and granted her a name.
